It’s a CBD Adaptogen Grasshopper Smoothie that’s sure to get you in the shamrock spirit. This recipe can be made vegan or keto-friendly. It may even help prevent a hangover!

If you’ve been to a health food store in the past few years, you’ve probably heard of adaptogens. If not: They’re herbs and plants that help your body maintain homeostasis.
In case you weren’t paying attention that day in health class, homeostasis is your body’s state of balance. Your body wants to be in homeostasis and will try hard to stay there. But, stress can throw it out of whack when it doesn’t have the nutrition and support it needs.
That’s where adaptogens come in.
Science has proven that adaptogens help control stress response by regulating hormone-secreting glands. When your hormones aren’t being supported, your body can respond to stress more intensely. When your body is constantly reacting to stress, you experience burnout quickly.
But, some stress is necessary for us to do things like wake up in the morning and focus. That’s why stress isn’t the problem. It’s how our bodies cope with stress that can cause issues.
Adaptogens can help our bodies be resistant to stress overload. This keeps us in a content and productive state for longer, among other benefits.

CBD might be an adaptogen. But due to a lack of scientific evidence, we can’t put it in the adaptogen category just yet.
That’s okay though. We know that CBD has many of the same properties as adaptogens. So we’re going to raise a green glass and toast to our good health.
We put together a St. Patrick’s Day-inspired, adaptogen-packed CBD smoothie recipe with three powerful adaptogens. All of the ingredients are easy to find at health food stores or online.
Moringa is a tree that many cultures consider to be the “tree of life.” Moringa powder is made from the dried leaves of the tree. It’s high in antioxidants, vitamin B6, vitamin C, and magnesium. It’s also a great source of plant-based protein. A single teaspoon of moringa powder contains around 6 grams of protein! Moringa has a subtle grassy flavor similar to matcha.
Not to be confused with cocoa, cacao hasn’t been exposed to high temperatures that cook out nutritional value. Like hemp and CBD, cacao is full of health-boosting flavonoids. It’s also rich in potassium, magnesium, protein, and fiber. We call for cacao nibs or powder in this recipe, but you could add cacao butter for a keto-friendly boost!
Maca root is native to Peru. It’s known for energy and mood-boosting properties. It may also be an aphrodisiac. It’s a super source of amino acids — the teeny-tiny but important building blocks of our bodies. Maca has an earthy and nutty flavor that blends well with cacao and many other natural flavors.
While not classified as an adaptogen, CBD has many of the same properties. It’s packed with terpenes, flavonoids, and cannabidiol. Broad-spectrum CBD gives you maximum benefits without the psychoactive effect of THC.
This play on a mint chocolate milkshake is clean, green, and seriously crave-worthy. It’s also vegan.
Replace the banana with a second avocado and add a few drops of Stevia. The moringa isn’t technically keto, so you can skip it if you prefer.
You can add either water-soluble or CBD oil drops to your CBD adaptogen smoothie. We recommend peppermint flavor. Depending on how much you like peppermint, you may need to add more mint leaves depending on how refreshing you like your grasshoppers.
